Thinking about one of the 3 E's: Encouragement.
We do a great job encouraging each other, even opponents across the net. But how well do we encourage ourselves? I am talking about the VOICE inside our head. The voice that is more powerful than the words we speak. It can lift you up or knock you down. It can affect you physically (breathing, muscles), emotionally, and psychologically. If that voice were a person making negative comments when I made an unforced error, would I want to play with her? Would I even want to be around this person? The point is, encourage yourself as you would another player. Observe the new VOICE and how your body responds. If we can make the voice inside our head more positive, our play will improve both physically and psychologically.
